Julia Benarrous

Currently an Editorial Producer at the Emmy®-nominated VR documentary production studio TARGO in Paris, I am a people-driven professional fascinated by film and show production.

I combine my best creative and operational skills to make projects bloom. Fluent in French, English, and Spanish, I have experience in writing, production, development, research, licensing, and distribution. I am a skilled planner, organizer, and team player.

After graduating from Sciences Po Paris with a master's degree in Journalism, I joined AFP's team in the United States as the Texas text & video correspondent. I have also dabbled in copywriting and comms, content strategy, and publishing.

I'm a curious cat and an observant conversationalist. Current interests include composting, barefoot shoes, and choral singing.

VR Documentary
Release November 2023

Sixty years after President Kennedy's assassination, dive into the archives and the testimonies of the last living witnesses of the case to travel back in time thanks to the radically new medium of virtual reality.


Skills: Fact-checking, research, licensing, distribution, writing, planning, budgeting, project management, production


Pre-production & Editorial: Researched characters, contacted them and conducted pre-interviews before writing scripts to help feed the main scenario. Assisted the director in writing the main scenario and wrote the behind-the-scenes video.

Production: Transcribed and translated the screenplay to French and Spanish, cast and hired voiceover actors in several languages, managed the freelance budget and database, and consolidated the credits file.

Licensing: Liaised between the director and the 3D team to ensure historical accuracy during 3D environment reconstruction, with help from the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza's collections director.

Distribution: Prepared the press kit submitted to journalists and festivals, which included press releases, visual assets, tech and accessibility documents. Traveled to Austin, TX and presented TARGO’s documentaries to thousands of people on our stands during the 2023 edition of SXSW where JFK Memento won the XR Competition Audience Award.

BEHIND THE DISH (2022)

VR Docu-series
Released

Behind the Dish is a virtual reality docuseries on gastronomy and female chefs, filmed in VR 360° and macro stereo 3D.


Skills: Production, project management, research, writing, planning, video capture, budgeting, social media, contracts


Pre-production: Researched food-related topics and characters, conducted pre-interviews with chefs from several countries, and edited screenplay drafts written by the director.

Production: Planned several week-long filming trips to Japan and the USA. Managed a budget and cast, hired and briefed freelancers. Captured 360° videos and sound for each episode of the series on the ground.

Licensing: Licensed artwork and photographs and managed a budget.

PR: Drew up the release plan of the series and the copy on social media.

Distribution: Handled the publishing process on Meta Quest TV. Oversaw PR efforts and media outreach. Submitted the series to dozens of festivals throughout the year and responded to interviews on the project.
